WHEREVER YOU ARE RIGHT NOW
Married. Single. Divorced. The pattern can follow you.
If you're married or in a relationship
You're tired of keeping the peace at your own expense. You hold things in, pull away, or find yourself in the same argument again.
You want the connection back — or clarity about whether this relationship is right for you.
If you're divorced
You may feel relieved that it's over and still be angry about what happened. You can explain what went wrong.
What you may not yet see is why you accepted so much, withheld so much, or stayed long after you knew something needed to change.
You want your life back. And when you choose another relationship, you want it to be different.
If you're single or dating
You want a relationship, but you also want your freedom. You may give too much at the beginning, struggle to say what you need, or find yourself losing interest when someone gets close.
Perhaps you're taking a break from dating because you don't trust yourself to choose differently.
Wherever you are, there is something worth understanding about the way you relate to women — and to yourself.
WHAT YOU KEEP INSIDE
I understand the man who says, “I don't get angry.”
You may believe that because you rarely raise your voice.
But anger can show up in the distance you create, the affection you withhold, the promise you don't follow through on, or the silence after you've said you're fine.
You can be calm on the outside and deeply resentful underneath.
You may have learned early that being agreeable kept you safe. That needing someone left you exposed. That showing hurt gave another person something they could use against you.
So you became capable. Self-reliant. Good at handling things yourself.
When those protective patterns follow you into relationships, someone can be beside you and still struggle to reach you. You may want connection and feel uncomfortable with what it asks of you.
This can happen inside a marriage, while dating, or repeatedly across relationships.
There is a reason you do this. And there is work you can do to change it.

You’re tired of feeling like nothing you do is enough.
HIS EXPERIENCE
“I work hard. I’m loyal. I take care of things. And somehow, I’m still the problem.”
I hear that from men.
HER EXPERIENCE
“I don’t want to beg the man I love to talk to me, touch me, or let me in.”
I hear that from women.
You may recognize this from the relationship you're in — or one that has already ended.
You're working hard to be dependable. She's asking to feel close to you. You hear criticism in the request, so you defend yourself or withdraw. She feels the distance and pushes harder. You feel controlled and pull further away.
Then each of you uses the other person's reaction as evidence that you were right.
If you're single now, this is a pattern worth recognizing before you find yourself inside it again.
Seeing your part does not excuse disrespect, manipulation, or another person's refusal to take responsibility. It gives you somewhere to begin changing what you contribute and deciding what you will accept.
UNDERSTANDING IS THE BEGINNING
You've already tried to understand yourself.
You've read the books. You may have been to counseling or spent years thinking about what went wrong.
Perhaps you promised yourself that the next relationship would be different.
Then someone gets close. She asks a question, wants more of your attention, or disagrees with you. You go quiet, give in, defend yourself, or start looking for a way out.
The insight you had when you were calm is nowhere to be found when you need it.
You can understand a pattern and still live inside it. Changing it takes work on the beliefs and fears underneath your reaction, followed by practice in the moments when you would usually disappear or fight back.
That is the work behind The Rewired Method.
MEET HEATHER
I'm Heather Carter. I know this work from both sides of the table.
For more than twenty years, I've helped men and women understand the patterns affecting their relationships and change how they show up.
I've worked with attorneys, physicians, founders, executives, and men trusted to lead teams and handle responsibility. Men who are respected in their professional lives and struggling privately with their relationships.
Some come to me hoping to rebuild a marriage. Others come after a divorce, trying to understand how they got there and how to move forward. Some are single and recognize that something needs to change before they choose another partner.
I've also sat across from wives and partners. I've heard the disappointment, the exhaustion, and the longing underneath the anger. I understand what a man means when he says he's doing everything he can. And I understand what a woman means when she says she still feels alone.
My understanding began long before I became a coach.
I lost my mother when I was three and grew up with an alcoholic, narcissistic father. I learned how to read a room, anticipate someone's mood, and protect myself.
At twenty-two, I arrived on Maui with a bicycle and a thousand dollars. Three months later, I was pregnant and homeless. I lived with severe anxiety and carried childhood patterns into my adult life.
I had to face what was happening within me and do the work to change it.
I studied psychology at DePaul University, became a certified Life and Business Coach, and devoted myself to understanding why people repeat painful patterns — and how to help them stop.
That work became The Rewired Method.
Today, I bring more than 20,000 hours of coaching, consulting, and training to the people I work with.
I will tell you the truth. I will ask about your side of the relationship, including the parts you've avoided looking at. I will also help you recognize where you've accepted treatment you should have addressed long ago.
I want you to be able to trust yourself — to know what you need, say what you mean, and build relationships you actually want to be in.

THE REWIRED METHOD
There is a way forward.
His Own Man is for men who are ready to examine what keeps happening in their relationships and do something about it.
The Rewired Method is the approach I developed through more than twenty years of this work. It looks at the beliefs, fears, and protective patterns underneath your reactions—and how they affect the way you relate to the people you love.
The work helps you recognize what you are doing, understand why, and begin changing how you show up.
Start with my free private masterclass. I'll introduce you to this approach and help you see what may be keeping you stuck.

PRE-REGISTER!Whether you're working through a current relationship or making sense of past ones, the patterns underneath your reactions matter. In this training, I'll help you understand:
1. Why being more agreeable, giving more, and trying harder can leave you increasingly resentful and disconnected.
2 What happens underneath the moment you shut down, defend yourself, or say yes when you mean no.
3 How patterns learned long before your adult relationships can shape the way you respond to closeness, conflict, and commitment.
4 Why you can be capable and confident elsewhere while feeling powerless or withdrawn in relationships.
5 What it takes to change your part in the pattern and make clearer decisions about the relationships you choose.
CLIENT EXPERIENCES
Hear from clients who have done the work.
“
She helped bring back the connection and the passion we once had!! It's even better than it ever was!
Kevin and Sarah Barker
“
I thought I had already fixed myself. Three weeks in, I realized how much I hadn't.
Will W. — Rochester
“
I was blamed for everything wrong, and the marriage did not survive. Heather was my champion. I am astounded when I think about how far I have come and how much I have grown in such a short period of time.
Jason D. — San Francisco
Some clients rebuild their relationships. Others move forward after a relationship ends. These are individual experiences of the work.
THE PATTERN TRAVELS WITH YOU
A relationship can end while the pattern continues.
A divorce changes your circumstances. It does not automatically change how you respond when you feel criticized, needed, rejected, or controlled.
You may be happier on your own and still have something to understand about what happened. You may meet someone very different and eventually notice familiar reactions in yourself.
Doing this work gives you an opportunity to recognize those reactions before they decide what happens next.
If you're in a relationship, that can help you become clearer about what you can change and what you need from your partner.
If you're single or divorced, it can help you understand what you want to bring into your next relationship — and what you no longer want to repeat.
The work belongs to you, whatever another person decides.
THE PEOPLE WHO MATTER MOST
The people in your life experience how you show up.
The people close to you notice whether difficult things get discussed or buried. They notice whether you are present or somewhere else in your mind.
If you're a father, your children experience this too. It affects whether they feel comfortable coming to you and whether they get to experience the love you have for them.
These patterns also show up in the boundaries you set with family, the conversations you avoid, and the way you treat yourself when nobody else is around.
You can begin changing those relationships now. You don't need to be dating or married for the work to matter.
BEFORE YOU BEGIN
Questions you may be asking
Do I need to be married or in a relationship?
What if I'm divorced — or have been divorced more than once?
If I have a partner, does she need to participate?
What if I've already done therapy or read the books?
How do I get started?
YOUR NEXT STEP
The pattern does not have to decide what happens next.
You may want to rebuild the relationship you're in.
You may be divorced and ready to stop carrying the anger, confusion, or habits of that relationship into the rest of your life.
You may be single and want to trust yourself to choose well, stay present, and build something different next time.
Wherever you are, start by understanding what keeps happening and what you can change.
Become the man you can trust, in a relationship and on your own.
